Not sure. It's sort of an American thing laughing at how stupid American's can be. There's no way people genuinely like the show because of the content. It's more like a joke. It's certainly enjoyable for us to watch, especially because I'm not far from the jersey shore and I know some people like that =(

I'm in your forum, bumping your old threads.
I don't watch a lot of TV. Y'see, a group over here owns a huge chunk of the "information business", such as news shows, magazines, newspapers, etc. This group isn't very happy with our actual government. So there's a lot of shit-flinging on TV, and getting your news from any of the sides is completely out of the question. I really can't decide whether to laugh or cry, each side just focuses on the other's mistake. But I don't want to bore you. As a result of what I said, I turn to the internet for my screen-related, non-interactive goodness. So, I recently finished watching Lucky Star and I'm currently following Fairy Tail. Both are subbed. They aren't bad, mind you, but anime in itself is a little bit obscure. Even if I'm not ashamed, it's not something you openly admit somewhere other than the internet. Or an otaku convention, I guess. Anyway, I highly recommend both. -------------------- Spending your life waiting for the messiah to come save the world is like waiting around for the straight piece to come in Tetris.

Lucky Star... Well, it's not bad per se but it's one of those shows you watch, but you don't know quite why you're watching it. It sucks you in.
 Could do with less Haruhi references as well. EDIT: Actually, the first comment extends to the entire "slice-of-life" genre. Azumanga Daioh, K-On and Hidamari Sketch, I'm looking at you. That said, I don't consider Azumanga or K-On "crappy". Hidamari's much more of a guilty pleasure. Vampire Diaries
Its a story about a normal highschool girl in Mystic Falls Virginia named Laina. OH WAIT! She is normal until her parents both die tragically in a car crash, where they drown in the near by lake, but Laina somehow survives even though she was in the backseat of the car.. to make matters worse, a hot new guy comes to the school! His name is Stefan, and he is soooo cool. All the girls like him, but Laina doesnt care because she is trying to swat off her clingy puppy-dog jock ex boyfriend whom she broke up with because she is going through a mental crisis because her parents are dead, and her brother has become a bad kid, doing drugs and stuff. Fast forward, Laina and Stefan fall in love, Stefans brother comes to town (Damon) and wants to set Katherine (The woman that turned both Damon and Stefan into Vampires, and they were both in love with, whom ironically looks JUST like Laina, free.) Katherine is supposedly in the bottom of a tomb in an old cemetary. Meanwhile, Jeremy, Lainas brother, is sleeping with some really cute girl who he later finds out is a vampire and stuff, and the girl also wants in the tomb because her mother is there. Some other crap happens, Lainas bff happens to be a witch, and blood decendant of the witch that set all the vampires from the civil war in the tomb in the first place. (This was after the Gilberts and Salvators set up for the Demons to get caught and burn them in the church, or so they thought.) blah blah blah fast foreward... The season is over and Katherine is somewhere!!! EEK! It is hard to explain. Watch it... and I love Gossip Girl... |
